EVA vs EPDM foam: what is the difference?

EVA and EPDM are both elastic, closed-cell foams, but they are chosen for different jobs: EVA for cushioning, inserts and products with a visible surface, EPDM for seals and outdoor applications.

What is EVA foam?

EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is a light, elastic foam with a smooth surface and good recovery. It cuts cleanly, laminates well and is available in many colours, so it is used for case inserts, sports goods, mats and pads.

What is EPDM foam?

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a rubber-based foam. It resists weather, UV light, ozone and ageing and stays flexible across a wide temperature range. Typical uses are gaskets, sealing strips and anti-vibration pads.

When should you choose EVA?

When appearance, colour, feel and a precise contour matter and the part is used mainly indoors: presentation and tool cases, sports and medical products, padding.

When should you choose EPDM?

When the part must seal or is exposed to sun, rain and temperature changes over time: enclosure gaskets, automotive and construction applications, outdoor equipment.

How do we confirm the right material?

Send your drawing, the operating environment and the hardness you need. FoamPackage proposes a material and thickness and cuts a sample before series production.
